    Q & A

How does it feel to have this story published for the first time?

Like sending a kid off to their first day of school, both exciting and unsettling.

What inspired the idea for your story?

On Halloween of 2021 I wore a plague doctor costume and I thought it would make a menacing villain in a story.

We know that writing can be a tumultuous journey with a lot of obstacles, what is your kryptonite as a writer?

I can write an entire novel, or 4, (who's counting?) But I can't write a blurb or summary to save my life.

Clearly, you’ve succeeded at writing a captivating story for GrendelPress, but we all start somewhere. What advice would you give yourself as a young writer?

Keep your head down, kid. Don't be so hard on yourself and don't compare careers with other people. It's your journey not theirs.

We’d like to argue that every good story makes both the author and the readers feel something. What perspectives or beliefs have you challenged with your story?

Love is worth fighting for sounds too cliche. Sometimes we go through hell for the people we love, often to our own detrement.

Tell us about your favorite author. What about their book(s) call to you and how do they inspire your own writing?

There is something melodic and devious about Joe Hill's prose that lures you into a dark alley with song and clubs you to death when you get there. I try to do the same.

What do you love most about your story’s genre?

There is something seductive about horror that's difficult to explain. A lot of great scary stories begin sweet. It isn't until halfway through the cupcake that you get the arsenic.

What are some other genres you’d like to break into and why?

Whatever strikes the mood, I guess.

If you had to pick another story of yours to share with your readers, what would it be?

I wrote a short story called Snowblind that was featured in Night Terrors Volume 22. I think it came out pretty good, maybe you will too.
