C. A. Jay is a dark romance author who likes to add a playful edge to most of her books to break up the persistent darkness. She adds a laugh here and there, so when you find yourself belly laughing in the middle of a serious and maybe questionable scene, that’s why. Jay grew up with a pen in her hand. She started off writing flowery poetry about literal flowers and moved on to angsty poetry in her teen years filled with longing and heartbreak. Finally, in her adult years, she started writing short stories that eventually transformed into novels. She admits that she lives on the dark side of writing, and it’s where she thrives best. She loves to analyze relationships that develop not in spite of, but because of, the darkness characters possess, and how this darkness shapes them, and the way their relationships form.Â

When A Girl Preysis the first book in The Order of Orchids and Lions series. In the novel, Wyatt Farely’s best friend Thomas gets a scholarship to an all-boys academy where he befriends the most popular boys in school, The Pride. Thomas disappears one night after being betrayed by his on-campus best friends, and since no one seems to care, Wyatt disguises herself as a boy and enters the academy to investigate. While there, she becomes involved with The Pride and gets entangled in a dangerous secret society.
